Week of November 29th

Welcome to another wonderful week of school! Thank you for all of your help and generosity for our Thanksgiving Feast. The food was delicious and we had a great time! If you brought the stuffing in a container and did not get it back on Tuesday it will be coming home today. Again, thank you so much for your help!
We will be having a Holiday Show on Wednesday, December 15th, at Grace School up on Pima. We are singing Jingle Bell Rock and are practicing very hard at school but need some extra practice at home. I am sending home the lyrics so you can rock out as a family!
This week we are learning the letter F and the sound that it makes. For homework we are still working on writing new words as well as sounding out and reading. Please keep filling out your reading logs, they are looking great! This week we are also learning to tell time to the hour, a new concept we are very excited about!
Please keep reviewing numbers to 50 at home. Making flash cards to identify the numbers is a great way of practicing at home. Making a memory game is another great way of practicing identifying the numbers in a fun way. Please also review with your student the letters we have learned so far and the sounds they make.
It is starting to get cold outside and that means it is sweater season! Sweaters and sweatshirts that are acceptable in the classroom are solid red, navy blue or white. If your student wears a different color not in dress code they may wear it outside but not in the classroom. Please label your student’s sweater or jacket. If it goes missing it is much easier to find if it is labeled with a first and last name.
Tomorrow, Wednesday, December 1st, is Dollar for Duds Day. Your student may dress down for a dollar tomorrow. Please remember to dress warm!!!
Tomorrow, Wednesday December 1st, is also our turn to shop at the holiday shop. If you would like your child to shop, please fill out the order form for how much you would like each student to spend on each member of the family.
I'm looking forward to another great week!

Week of November 15th

Welcome to another wonderful week of school!
On Tuesday, November 23rd, the school has a Thanksgiving Feast. Each grade brings in a different feast item and this year we have dressing. We need each student to bring in at least one prepared box of dressing that Tuesday morning. If you can make more that would be greatly appreciated.

If your student wears a different color not in dress code they may wear it outside but not in the classroom. Please label your student’s sweater or jacket. If it goes missing it is much easier to find if it is labeled with a first and last name.
This week I am attaching a cornucopia to color and fill with different fruits and vegetables that you can find in magazines and newspapers. We will use these to decorate our room for the Thanksgiving Feast.
This week homework will go home today, Monday, and is due on Friday. We are working on writing words that we are learning to sound out in phonics. Please make sure that your student can sound out the words and tell you what they are. Blending can be a tough skill for some students so be patient with your child. Some fun games to play to help with this are letter Bingo or a game we call “Flyhunter.”
Also please count with your student every night. Our next goal to count to without skipping any numbers is 50. Please also review what the teen numbers look like, these are often a challenge for students.
I am looking forward to a great week!

Week of October 25th

To celebrate Halloween we will be doing a little party on Friday, October 29th in the afternoon. If you would like to bring in a little treat for our class that would be great! We will be having a fun day on Friday doing lots of Halloween activities. Students will not be able to wear costumes to school that day.
The school Harvest Festival will be this Friday, October 29th on our campus. This is such a fun night! You can wear a costume, play some games and win lots of candy! Please come out and have a great time!

Week of October 11th

Welcome to our short week! I have just a few reminders before the fall break:
This Wednesday, October 13th, is the last day of the first quarter. Report cards will be going home that day and it will be a half day with no lunch and no after school. Please make sure that you are here to pick up your student at 11:30!
We are going to the Pumpkin Patch on the 21st of October. If you would like to come on the trip with us you will need to get your fingerprints done in the office and make sure that they have a copy on file. Parents will also probably need to drive themselves due to limited space on the bus. The cost is $6 and your student will need to bring a sack lunch with them that day for our picnic at Reid Park afterwards.
Due to the short week this week we will not have any homework. Please practice with your student the letters that we have learned so far this year: L, H, G, O, T, P and A. Have your student tell you the sound that each letter makes and identify upper and lower case of each of the letters.
Also please count with your student every night. Our next goal to count to without skipping any numbers is 50. Please also review what the teen numbers look like, these are often a challenge for students.
No school Thursday and Friday, October 14th and 15th. Have a great fall break!
Also the 13th is the last day for the Cookie Dough sale. Please turn in any order forms by Wednesday.
Wednesday is also Friday dress. Your student may wear blue jeans and an LPA shirt. Please make sure that your student is wearing blue jeans and not another color of jeans.
I hope everyone has a great break and we will see you back at 8:30 on Monday, October 18th!

Week of October 4th

Welcome to another wonderful week of school! This Thursday, October 7th, is our 40th day of school! We will be having a big celebration that day and even get to wear our pajamas to school. Please make sure that your student is in school that day, it is very important that we have everyone in class this Thursday.
We are planning a trip to the Pumpkin Patch this month! We are very excited about this trip and I will be sending home the permission slip this week. If you would like to come on the trip with us you will need to get your fingerprints done in the office and make sure that they have a copy on file. The cost is $6 and your student will need to bring a sack lunch with them that day for our picnic at Reid Park afterwards.
If you would like to come and volunteer in class, or join us for fieldtrips throughout the year, you need to get your fingerprints done in the front office. I would like to recommend doing it through the state though there is a cost. This gives you a fingerprint clearance card that can be used for 7 years!
We have been practicing writing our numbers and writing the letters t, o, and p. Please work on this with your student at home! I will send a homework sheet home on Tuesday for the students to practice their numbers and letters. It will be due back on Friday. We are slowly working up to homework packets.
This week we will also be learning about the letter “P” and “A”. How to write it correctly and what sound the letter makes. I would like to start a picture wall of items that you and your student might find that start with the letter “P” or “A”. Please send in any pictures or items that you think would be a good addition to our wall!
Next week is our end of the quarter. Please remember that Wednesday October 13th, is a half day with no lunch and no after school.
Looking forward to another wonderful week of kindergarten!

Week of September 27th

Our garden unit is over and we have started on our new unit, fairy tales! We have been reading some of the classics, Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and The Princess and the Pea. I will be sending home some of the old center work on Monday that can stay home and turn into refrigerator art! If there is unfinished work in the pile that is ok, you can work on it at home if you like but it is not due as homework.
We have been practicing writing our numbers and writing the letters h, t, and g. Please work on this with your student at home! I will send a homework sheet home on Tuesday for the students to practice their numbers and letters. It will be due back on Thursday. We are slowly working up to homework packets.

If anyone is able to help out we need some hot laminating sheets for our classroom. You can find them at Office Max or Office Depot and they usually come in packages of 50 sheets. If you are able to help I would really appreciate it!
I am looking forward to a fun and exciting week!

Mrs. Molina, our art teacher, has asked that we bring in an old shirt that the students can put on when we will be painting. It will go over the clothes they are wearing so a big shirt is probably a good idea. Please make sure that you write your student’s name on the tag of the shirt so that there is no confusion about whose shirt is whose! We will probably use these throughout the year as well during painting time.
I'm looking forward to a great week and please feel free to contact me anytime.

Week of August 16th

We had a great first two days of school this last week and I am very excited for this school year! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns this year. I am easiest to get a hold of through email but please feel free to call me anytime. I am looking forward to working with both you and your student!

Please remember your student needs to wear a collared shirt everyday to school. It may be red, navy blue or white, but needs to have a collar. Their shirts also need to be tucked into their pants or skirts at all times! Please make sure your student knows how important this is!

Monday-Friday the blue homework folder will go home with your student which has work that they have done in class and letters to go home. Please make sure that this folder comes back to school each day so that we can fill it with news and great new refrigerator art!

Attached to the newsletter is the snack calendar for this month. Everyday, except for Wednesdays, we will have an afternoon snack in class. It is important that we have a snack for each day so if there is problem with the day that you have been assigned please let me know and I would be happy to work something out with you. Snacks that work well are foods that are prepackaged and do not have to be refrigerated. Due to health code we can not serve food that has been prepared at home. Also please no snacks that have peanuts or nuts in them due to food allergies. There are 28 students in our class and please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about the calendar!

Looking forward to a great week!

I hope to see you on Monday the 9th, but if not, look forward to seeing all of my new kindergarteners at 8:30 on Thursday the 12th, for the first day of school!

Please remember to keep reading and filling out the reading logs from Bookman's. We are trying to win that prize money and are very motivated! Please let me know if you need an extra one to fill out at home.

Also please remember to bring in a big shirt that can be worn for art. Mrs. Molina wants the kids to paint but wants to save their nice school clothes! Please bring a shirt in, we can keep it at school so that you don't have to worry about sending it every week.

Looking forward to another great week!

I am so proud of all of the students for studying so hard for their spelling tests! Great job, keep up the great work!

The 100th Day of School is close and I would like each student to bring in 100 of something so that we can practice counting by 2's, 5's and 10's. The 100th Day is very important, please remember to have your student here at school that day!

I am looking forward to a great week!
