Welcome to a great week! Valentine's Day was really fun, thank you for helping your student make all of those valentines.
We have had a parent generously offer to donate a DVD player to our classroom. Thank you so much for this help, I appreciate all of your help and support. If anyone is able to donate a pencil sharpener to our classroom we are still in need. There is a great one at Cosco with a lifetime warranty!
If your child is feeling sick or has a fever please keep them home for the day. We want everyone to be as healthy as possible! To stay that way please remember to cover your mouth when you sneeze and cough, and wash your hands after using the bathroom.
In class this week we will be learning the letter Y and working on finishing up our Valentine’s Day unit and starting our President’s Day unit. We are also starting to work on addition problems, learning to add two numbers together. We are using manipulatives in class so please feel free to use them at home with the homework. Something small like marbles or game tokens works well.
I am happy to see that so many students are practicing their writing and filling out their reading logs on their own. Please keep turning those reading logs in, I love to see what you are reading!
On Wednesday, February 23rd, we will be having Grandparents’ Day at school. We would love for as many grandparents to come as possible. That day we will be doing a rodeo out on the basketball courts which should be a rootin’, tootin’ good time! Grandparents are invited to our rodeo starting at 9:30 and then we will have lunch right after. Please meet us at 9:30 for a fun-filled day!

Week of January 31st
We have had such a great week so far, I am looking forward to seeing how the rest of it will go!
We are going on a field trip to the TCC Music Hall on Monday, February 7th, 2011. It is called “Bodiology” and will teach us healthy ways to take care of our bodies! Your student will need to bring a lunch that day and if possible please pack it in a paper sack so that it takes up less space and can be disposed of at the park!
In class this week we will be learning the letter C and will be learning about Ground Hog’s Day and starting our Valentine’s Day unit. We are learning to count by tens which is really fun and are practicing daily. We will have another spelling test this week, getting us prepared for first grade, which will be made up of the sight words we have been working on. Please study these words with your student and keep looking for them in the books you are reading.
Also please count with your student every night. Our next goal is to count to without skipping any numbers is 75.
I'm so excited for the rest of this week and I hope you enjoyed your student's Groundhog's Day projects!
