Week of August 27th

Our open house is this Wednesday, August 29th from 6-8.  This is a chance for you to come check out our classroom and there are a few presentations that will be running in the cafeteria that you can attend.  The Book Fair will also be going on in the library, a great opportunity to stock up on books!
I am coaching volleyball this season so there are some days that we have to leave the campus early in order to get to the game.  Those days Ms. Hayde will stay with the students in the classroom until you pick them up.  Those dates in the near future are September, 4th, 6th, 11th, 13th, 21st, 25th, 28th, and October, 16th, 18th and 25th.
This week homework will go home today, Monday, and is due on Friday. This will be the first week that if homework is not turned in Friday that your student will have to do it during their fun center time on Friday.  We will also be working on the letter H and will have will be continuing our garden unit.  For science this week we will also be doing an apple tasting this week so please look for a reminder coming later this week on what kind of apple to bring.
Also please count with your student every night.  Our goal is to count to 25 without skipping any numbers.
Our school fundraiser is still going on!  If you have sold your book or have sold many books and need to turn in your envelope with the order forms please bring them to Ms. Hayde or I in the classroom.  If you were unable to sell your book please bring it back to us to check it in.  The last day to turn in money or the book will be September 5th so good luck and good selling!
I'm looking forward to another wonderful week in kindergarten!

Week of August 20th

Welcome to another wonderful week of kindergarten!  I am sending home an alphabet strip and number flashcards for you and your student to use and practice with at home.  There are many fun games that you can play with your student to help learn number and letter recognition.  Memory is a great one as well as matching uppercase letters to lowercase.

I just wanted to remind everyone that after school if you pick your student up and arrive after 3:20-3:25, we will be back in our classroom, or after 4:30 will be in room 312.  Wednesdays are very tricky days because lunch starts at 11:15 for after school but dismissal is at 11:30.  We will only wait until about 11:35-11:40 before we head into lunch.

This week homework will go home today, Monday, and is due on Friday.  We are still working on writing our name the “kindergarten way.”  This means that only the first letter of their name is capitalized.  Please have your student trace their name and then write it by themselves on the same line.  We will also be working on the letter G and will have will be starting our garden unit.  Everyone else does spring flowers, but I like to do fall harvest!
Also please count with your student every night.  Our goal is to count to 25 without skipping any numbers.
I'm looking forward to another great week!

Week of August 13th

Welcome to another wonderful week of kindergarten!

We will be taking as many field trips as possible this year!  For field trips we all like to wear the same color shirts so that we can easily identify our class when we are off campus.  Please make sure that your student has a red collared shirt or a red LPA shirt for these special trips.
Our first school fundraiser has officially started!  Each student will have the opportunity to sell these books, but if you could please pick the books up in the classroom that would be very helpful.  We have had issues in the past with backpacks mysteriously opening and the books never get home, so we are going to try and new way this year and see if it works.  Good luck and good selling!
This week homework will go home today, Monday, and is due on Friday.  We are working on writing our name the “kindergarten way.”  This means that only the first letter of their name is capitalized.  Please have your student trace their name and then write it by themselves on the same line.  We will also be working on the letter O and will have our class Olympics on Thursday, and will then challenge Ms. O’Hare’s class this Friday! GO TEAM!
Also please count with your student every night.  Our goal is to count to 25 without skipping any numbers.

Week of August 6th

Welcome to another wonderful week of kindergarten!  We are still working on procedures and practices and are doing such a great job!  Please review school rules with your student at home, hearing these rules constantly helps solidify them.
Tomorrow I am sending home a little sheet for parents to fill out about the newsletter.  I would like to start sending the letter in an email weekly and get a list of all your emails.  This would also be helpful if something comes up last minute and I need to drop a quick note to you.
Wednesday, August 8th, is our first Duds for Dollars!  This means that your students may wear an outfit of their choice to school that day if they bring a dollar to put towards our classroom fundraiser.  Please make sure that school dress code still applies: no tank tops, short shorts, or open-toed shoes.  This is such a fun day, enjoying dressing down!!
Our class pet Peanut, is looking for families to spend get-away weekends with!  If you would like to take Peanut for the weekend please let me know, I will put a sign up sheet out for those interested.
Have a great week and please let me know if you have any questions or concerns!
