Starting
this semester we will be doing lots and lots of writing! Please bring in a three-ring notebook so that
we can keep all of the student’s writing in their own, very special journal.
When writing at home ask your student to first try sounding out the word they
are trying to spell. This connects their
phonics to their writing and builds confidence with spelling words.
The 100th Day of
School is coming up fast! It will be on
Wednesday, January 16th and will be a very fun day full of lots of
activities based on the number 100. I
would like each student to glue 100 items to the number 100 for homework this
week. Some ideas are buttons, rice,
beans, macaroni noodles, or stickers.
Every year students bring in the most creative things; I can’t wait to
see what you think of this year!
This week homework will go
home and Monday and it is due Friday. We
will be learning the new letter, U, which can be a tough one for the kids. We like to make a “U” with our hand and make
the “U” sound, like a caveman! This
seems to help the kids remember this tricky vowel’s sound. Our new science unit will be all about our
biome, the desert! We will be learning
all about this habitat as we prepare for our field trip to Sabino Canyon. This week we are also starting our Dinosaur
unit! This is a student favorite and I
invite you to bring in any dinosaur books so that we can read them to the
class. J
It is that time of year
again when the cold and flu are out to get us!
In class we have been talking about covering our mouth when we cough and
sneeze as well as making sure that we wash our hands for at least 20 seconds to
get all of the germs! If your student is
sick, especially with a fever, please keep them home to get better. If your student leaves with a fever, please
know that you have to keep them home the next day as well.
I'm looking forward to another great week!
