Week of February 25th

Welcome to another week of kindergarten!  Get your calendars out, time to plan for our end of the year celebration!  This year we will do our kindergarten celebration on Friday, May 17^th and start around 9:00.  This is a big day for the students so please plan a fun day for you and your student afterwards!  I know getting time off from work can be a challenge sometimes, so I want to make sure everyone has plenty of time!

Our field trip to Village Farms was so educational and fun!  The students had a wonderful time and learned so much about healthy eating, composting, planting seeds and even how to milk a real cow!  If you ever get the chance, you can visit the gardens whenever they are open and your student could show you around.  They also do a movie every Friday night, with popcorn if you are interested!

This week homework will go home on Monday and it is due Friday.  We will be learning the letter D and the sound that it makes. This week is Dr. Seuss’s birthday so we will be reading many, many Dr. Seuss classics!  For homework your student will need to make up some of their own Dr. Seuss type characters! Along with writing down their name they will need to illustrate their silly character!  You may use books, the Internet, encyclopedias or even take a trip to library to do some real research.  Please make sure that your student writes these facts themselves.

The Friday Dress rules have changed and there will be random uniform checks throughout the week. If your student is in dress code they will be able to wear jeans on Friday.  If your student is not in dress code during this random check they will be given a slip of paper that says they did not earn Friday Dress that week.  We will keep a list on the board as well if you have any questions! If you do not get a slip that says No Dress Down, then your student may wear jeans.

Week of February 18th

Welcome to another wonderful and short week of kindergarten!  Here are a few reminders for the week.  

Our field trip to Village Farm is coming up tomorrow, Tuesday, February 19th. 

These are just a few reminders for that day.

·      We will be leaving the school by 9:00 that morning, please make sure that your student is on time to school that morning to get ready!

·      We are eating a picnic lunch at Brandi Fenton Park after Village Farm so your student needs to come to school with a lunch that day.  Please do not pack their lunch in a lunch box.  Please use a paper bag or old plastic shopping bag, this way we can dispose of everything at the park and no one will leave behind a favorite lunch box.  Please label their lunch as well so there is no confusion when we are passing out the lunches. 

·      To make our class easy to spot please make sure that your student wears a RED collared shirt or RED LPA shirt to school that day.  Your student may also wear jeans that day.  It can be dusty at Village Farm so please make sure that your student wears some good tennis shoes that can get dirty.

·      As it will probably be cold in the morning and warm up as the day goes on please send a jacket with your student that they can tie around their waist when it gets warm.  Your student is responsible for their own jacket/coat!!!

·      Your student may also bring a hat to wear to Village Farm.

·      The $4.00 for the field trip to Village Farm is NON-REFUNDABLE, so if your student is absent or does not earn their field trip that day the money will not be refunded to you.

Thank you for all your help and we are very excited about our field trip!  This trip is going to be fun and educational, learning how to help our community and world, we can’t wait!!

Wednesday, February 20^th is Rodeo Day at school and your student may wear jeans, a western shirt and cowboy hat to school if they would like!

Week of February 11th

Welcome to another wonderful week of kindergarten!  Permission slips for our next field trip on February 19^th, to Village Farms are due this Tuesday, February 12th.  Please fill them out and send them in with the $4.00(cash only) by Tuesday.  We already have our 4 parents that will be going with us that day, but thank you for the support!  Remember, if your student is not able to make it on the field trip that day the money is NONREFUNDABLE.

Valentine’s Day is this Thursday, February 14^th so please bring in your Valentine’s Day cards Thursday or earlier.  We have 30 students in our class and instead of writing names on the cards please just leave them blank in the “to” section; only fill out whom it is from.  It is much easier and faster for the students to pass them out to their friends this way.

This week is Valentine’s Day and Arizona’s birthday so we will be reading lots of nonfiction books about Arizona and our social studies activities will be based around learning about The Grand Canyon State!  For homework you and our student will research and write down three facts about Arizona.  You may use books, the Internet, encyclopedias or even take a trip to library to do some real research.  Please make sure that your student writes these facts themselves.
